A Day in the Life: Catering on a Yacht in the Monaco F1

Imagine you're sitting on the back of a super yacht in Monaco sipping on a cocktail and watching something weighing the same as a grand baby piano with a 1000HP engine hurtle around the race track at up to 290km/h.

"It is as close to the track as you can get without being in the actual team"

For the last Grand Prix we were based on super yacht 'Robbie Bobby' (poorly circled in purple) and it is quite simply an experience you will never forget. The sounds of the engines, the smell of the rubber.

Typical Day at the Monaco Grand Prix

02:00am

The track is closed from 04:00am so this is the only time we have access to the boat by the van. And therefore this is the only time we can get all the food and drinks onboard for the day. We bring on enough food for 80 brunches, lunches, and gourmet canapés for throughout the day.

07:00am

This is when The New Caterers team comes onboard. As the track is now closed the only way onto the super yacht is via tender (small boat) from another port. It takes about 20 minutes but it is a spectacular ride. The sun rises and the sky is different hues of orange.

"You can't beat the commute into work cruising along the waves into the port of Monaco. The tender navigating its way between mega yachts with cars and basketball courts on the deck! "

10:00am

Guests start to arrive, also via tender. Once aboard they are treated to glass of Champagne and then a buffet brunch. People usually tend to head straight for the back of the boat to inspect the amazing view. And there are races going on throughout the day from Porshes to Formula 3000.

12:00am

Lunchtime. On yachts we like to serve a fresh, varied banquet of platters and lert people come at their own pace. We always bring spare because people love it so much.

Here are just a few of dishes from that day:

  • Prawn with a Mango, Lime and Coriander Salsa. With Avocado and Pomegranate

  • Slow Roasted Lamb Leg with Sundried Tomato, Feta and Basil

  • Roasted Truffle Beef Carpaccio

  • Asparagus and Pine Nut Salad with Parmesan Shavings and Mnt and Basil Dressing

  • Eton Mess with a Pimms Twist

14:00

The main event - The race begins. Most people grab a chair on the back of the boat and watch the race. We provide drinks and food service throughout and make sure your every need is looked after.

16:00

This is when we serve afternoon tea. The race has just about finished. People are ready to have a drink, whether it be tea & coffee or gin & tonics. And with that we serve a selection of cakes and delights.

behind the scenes

18:00

The party continues. The cocktails are still going down smoothly and all the boats are now turning up the music. This is when Monaco opens up the track and the 100,000 people can walk around. There is live music everywhere and the atmosphere is buzzing. The guests mainly stay onboard and from the comfort of. their own yacht.

20:00

This is when we tend to wrap things up, naturally people are quite exhausted from the day. Even sitting on a back of boat is more tiring than you think! Guests can either leave by the tender to the other port (the way they came) or go straight onto the track and join the after race parade
